It is with much sadness that we have to announce that the Sunrise Full and Half Ultras will be postponed until 2021.
Background
As previously communicated, we were planning to make a decision on the race at the end of September, with the safety of runners, volunteers and the communities we pass through at the forefront of our mind. However events accelerated, when a key venue for both events cancelled our booking, due to COVID-19.
We explored alternative venues, however, with the new government guidance, no venues were taking bookings. While we considered a number of outdoor options, a suitable location could not be found. This also compromised our race safety plan and a number of our risk assessments so was eventually discounted as an unviable solution.
We appreciate this decision will be met with huge disappointment, as many have seen their 2020 race plans torn up, ourselves included. Please rest assured that we have tried everything we can to find a suitable approach that would enable us to put on both events, while continuing to ensure your safety throughout. This has been a difficult decision but given the current situation and uncertainty about the weeks and months ahead, we finally came to the conclusion that it was the only one we could take.
Next Steps
As with most events, our insurance does not cover pandemics such as this. We have however slowed our preparations for the event over the summer, to restrict the financial commitments we needed to make and give us maximum flexibility if we were to reach this point.
All signed-up competitors will be receiving a follow-up email, within which we will outline the options available to you and how you can go about choosing those. Please note that this email will come from us via SI Entries, so please check your junk folder if nothing appears in your inbox.
We apologise for any inconvenience this decision causes. In particular for all those people hoping to run the event as their first ultra. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. If you have any questions at all, please contact us.
Stay safe, keep healthy and we hope to see many of you at one of our events in 2021
