It is with much sadness that we have to announce that the Sunset Ultras and Trail Marathon will be postponed until 2021.
As previously communicated, we have been waiting for more certainty before we took this decision. It is still unclear when COVID-19 will reach its peak but after the government announcements last night, it is clear that we will all be restricted to our homes for many weeks to come. As an inaugural event, this makes it impossible for us to carry out our pre-event planning and safety checks to the level we would like, leaving us with little choice but to postpone.
As with most events, our insurance does not cover pandemics such as this. We have however slowed our preparations for the event in recent weeks, to restrict the financial commitments we needed to make, and give us maximum flexibility, if and when we reached this point.
All entrants will have already received an email outlining the next steps and options from SI Entries, so please check your inboxes. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We apologise for any inconvenience this decision causes. In particular for all those people hoping to run the event as their first ultra or marathon. Please note, this decision only relates to our Sunset events in June 2020 and we are still hopeful that we will be able to run our Sunrise events in December as planned.
We are in the middle of a national and worldwide emergency and like everybody, our priorities are far from running, as we focus on our families and their safety. Our thoughts and gratitude are with those within the NHS, public services and other key workers, who are working hard to protect us all at this unprecedented time.
Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe, keep healthy and we hope to see many of you at Sunrise 2020 in December.
All the best
Giles and Mark
